Does Eye Color Say Something About You?

Are people with blue eyes really more youthful and playful? Are people with brown eyes especially loving and passionate? Are people with gray eyes stronger—and make great leaders? Are people with green eyes more vibrant and creative? Are people with hazel eyes short tempered?  Chances are, these are stereotypes (for the most part), and there’s no conclusive evidence to suggest otherwise.

HOWEVER, there are studies that suggest we should be thinking twice about what eye color may mean.

Researchers Continue To Study Eye Color

Greater Pain Tolerance?

In a recent study conducted by the University of Pittsburgh, women with lighter eyes (blue or green) experienced less pain before, during, and after labor than women with hazel or brown eyes. Researchers also concluded that women with light eyes had lower rates of anxiety and postpartum depression than their dark-eyed counterparts.

Greater Alcohol Consumption Tolerance?

Georgia State University researchers found evidence that eye color may correlate with how well people handle alcohol. According to the study, drinkers with light-colored eyes consume more alcohol, and drinkers with darker eyes are less likely to become alcoholics because they don’t consume as much alcohol to become intoxicated.

Does Eye Color Affect Eye Health?

Your eye color influences the amount of light your eyes absorb. Lighter eyes may be more susceptible to UV damage, and consequently may be more prone to macular degeneration and cataract development as we age. If you have lighter eyes, it’s especially important for you to protect them when you’re out in the sun (but it’s important for you dark-eyed folks too)!
