So, Your Teen Wants Contact Lenses?
Is your teenager asking for contacts? Contact lenses can help your child enjoy added freedom to enjoy certain activities, sports, etc. In some cases, contacts can help boost self esteem if your son or daughter feels self conscious about wearing glasses.
However, contacts also require some additional responsibility. As a parent, here are a few tips to help you and your teen navigate this new territory.
Types Of Contact Lenses
There are different types of contact lenses. Depending on needs, these could include gas permeable and disposable soft contact lenses. Gas permeable lenses allow gas to pass through the lens providing the cornea with oxygen. Disposable contacts are easily replaced and are often good for dry or irritated eyes.
When we meet with you and your teen, we’ll determine which contacts are best, according to your teen’s habits, schedule, and eye conditions.
Remind Your Teen…
- Never share contact lenses. Sharing contacts can lead to eye infections. Also, it’s not safe to wear contacts that haven’t been prescribed for your eyes.
- Handle contacts with care. Lenses can break or rip quite easily. If they are damaged, stop wearing them and replace them with a new pair.
- Always wash hands before handling. It’s important to have clean hands when handling contacts. Hands accumulate tons of germs that you don’t want in your eyes.
